Anna Tomlinson was known for her athletic versatility during her high school career at Haliburton Highlands Secondary School. Growing up on Boshkung Lake, she was a multi-year recipient of MVP awards for volleyball and track. She also earned the Female Athlete of the Year award for three years running.
With the support of her biggest fans, her parents, Anna poured her energy into sports, academics and team leadership. She captained the junior and senior volleyball team to district championships, qualified at OFSSA for five consecutive years in multiple Track and Field events, advanced to the Ontario Championships in badminton, and was selected as the Valedictorian of her graduating class in 1995.
At York University, Anna was a heptathlete, competing in the grueling seven event heptathlon, the most demanding of all track and field events. She qualified for the OUA finals all four years. She also excelled as a member of the 4 x 200 metre relay team, which placed 4th at the CIAU Championship.
At both the Ontario and Canadian University Championships, she medaled in shot put.
These accomplishments at the university athletic level are extraordinary. Anna demonstrated a high intensity work ethic and sportsmanship. She was recognized as a leader who built inclusive team morale. As the mother of four athletic sons, Anna continues to be a role model in every facet of her life.
